Travel Therapy: Is it everything they say it is?

travel

As a new therapist, travel therapy wasn’t much of an industry.  As time went on, there were numerous calls from agencies, back in my DOR days, wanting to know if my facility had an opening for a travel therapist.  The pool of travel therapists grew, as did the industry.

Well, the kid is off to college, the husband is well established in his profession and the timing was right to try the field of travel therapy.  What would working outside my well-known town in mid-Texas offer?

As I soon found out — there are good travel companies, and then there are companies with whom I wasn’t so comfortable.  And, despite the diligent efforts of the recruiter in the company which I selected, two potential travel positions just didn’t work out.

My story takes a different twist, which I’ll share later.  Suffice it to say that I’m now working in Hickory, NC, though not as a travel therapist.

But, I still wonder — is working as a travel therapist all it’s advertised to be?  Is it beneficial to the facility to hire a travel therapist?

I’d like to know what you’ve experienced.
